About us

Rick Martin and Nairn Illingworth

We live, breed and farm our pigs in Onamalutu Valley.

Our pigs, the sows are either saddleback crosses or large blacks. We periodically change our boar.

The Sows:

Our sows will live out there life with us, each named is an important part of our farm family.

The litters are born in a hut in a paddock, the sow chooses her hut and is free to move about and exhibit

her natural behaviour prior to farrowing.

The Piglets:

These guys are just impossible to keep in one place so they roam and play everywhere.

When it comes to weaning which is when the sow is starting to show signs of having

enough or the piglets demands we remove the mother and they stay in their home paddock.

Weaners:

The pigs stay with us for 6 to 7 months, then we take them down to Cheviot for processing

in our purpose built trailer.

Food:

They are in paddocks but the grass disappears quickly! They get feed twice a day on barley and a large

amount of fruit and vegetables.

Antibiotic/Hormones:

We do not have any hormones in our food or if on rare occasions we have to help a piglet with antibiotics we

do not take this to market.

Our pigs are a labour of love and we hope this reflects in the end product. We endeavour to keep them happy and healthy,

we believe this must reflect in the end product but most importantly for us, the pigs welfare has been of most important thru out its life.

We hope you can find everything you need. Long Acre Farm is focused on providing high-quality products and customer satisfaction - we will do everything we can to meet your expectations.
